Who Jasmine Roth Loves Now

Meet the custom home designer and find out what—and who—is inspiring her right now.

Designer Jasmine Roth (@jasminerothofficial) didn’t plan on becoming a home designer, much less the star of hit HGTV show Hidden Potential. After college, she and her husband, Brett, started building their own home and a next-door investment property in Huntington Beach, California. But they weren’t able to get much done while working their 9-to-5 corporate consulting jobs, so she quit hers and threw herself into the construction projects full time.

“It was purely an economic decision,” she says. “We needed to finish the investment property and sell it for a profit, and I knew I could manage the project and use my real estate background—I was a licensed Realtor during college—to sell the house, so that’s what I did.”

That turned out to be the “best accidental career decision ever,” Roth says. Soon after, she started her own business, Built Custom Homes, and not much later, an HGTV production company reached out about doing a show. Now the TV star and new author brings what she describes as her “toes in the sand, pops of color, California casual” style to her projects while working to transform cookie-cutter suburban houses into one-of-a-kind homes for her clients.

“My style is all about real life—not the life you see on social media but how we really live, with piles of mail, dirty dishes, laundry that doesn’t get folded right away. It’s casual and leaves space for you to actually live.”

“If my clients will go for it, I encourage open shelving,” says Jasmine. Keep all your pretty pieces out on display and store everything else in oversized lower drawers, as she did here.

“Layers, layers, layers! I love their use of wallpaper, decals, and natural light. I find myself studying their photos, and they post great before-and-afters. A ‘must follow!’ ”

“Tim and Kim are close friends and a favorite follow—they have the best vintage finds! They recently got hacked and lost so much; seeing them take it in stride and rebuild has made me love them even more.”

“This account keeps it fresh and isn’t scared to add an unorthodox accent like a vintage wooden surfboard to the mix. Plus, I love that they’re just starting their family and share sneak peeks into their life at home.”
