Peek Inside Actress Sophia Bush’s Home Office

The star of Hulu’s Love, Victor organizes her home office/recording studio/personal memory lane not by purging, but by curating.

Sophia Bush is sentimental. She was looking for a way to display all the mementos she’d accumulated over the years— framed photos, old Playbills, ticket stubs, and memorabilia (a letter from Michelle Obama!)—without cluttering up her place.

She zeroed in on her home office. “I’d decided I needed a dedicated space to work,” says the actress, best known for roles on One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D. and currently appearing in Hulu’s Love, Victor. “Trying to do it at my kitchen table would lead to reorganizing my pantry with a label maker—and not getting any business done.”

Designer Jake Alexander Arnold helped her achieve a funky retro feel using mid-century pieces and modern, eco-friendly accents—and those signature 360-degree corkboard walls. The result is perfect for recording Work in Progress, her popular podcast about acting and activism, and for containing her precious memories in an orderly way.

Bonus: The walls are soundproof. “The room has a lovely, cozy sound quality,” says Bush. “And even if it’s just me in here ‘hosting’ a guest on Zoom, it’s a fun place to hang out.”

1. “Savannah furniture designer Katy Skelton makes really beautiful adjustable lighting, and I got these from her. They’ve traveled with me over a couple of moves.”

2. “The two matching 1960s color block paintings came from a vintage shop in Chicago. To me, the bottom one looks like something you’d find in Pac-Man!”

3. “I purchased this vintage Lafer sofa at a really great gallery space in Chicago called Rider for Life. They carry furniture, art, apothecary, and vintage clothing.”

4. “A friend of mine had a vinyl album made of the first episode of my podcast, Work in Progress, which I thought was so sweet.”

5. “I chose a recycled terrazzo tile. I really love that flooring, but I wanted to do it with less impact. I tried to use as many eco-friendly materials in the house as I could.”
