Property Brothers Designs Made with Love

We’re celebrating Valentine’s Day in the most fitting way.

Valentine’s Day is usually about candy hearts and candlelit dinners, but this year we’re taking a different approach and looking back at design-related demonstrations of love. In these episodes of Property Brothers, the families we worked with went above and beyond in showing their love and appreciation for each other—whether through thoughtful decor details or giant add-on surprises that were really hard to keep under wraps. These are five touching moments from recent episodes that we are honored to have been part of.

Brian & Angie’s Family Feature Wall

This renovation was incredibly emotional for everyone involved. When we were mapping out Brian’s new office, his wife, Angie, wanted to incorporate some extra-special building materials: wood from his family’s barn that was about to be torn down. Without telling Brian—and with assistance from their kids—we salvaged some of that wood for a beautiful feature wall in his workspace. As expected, tears were (wait for it) shed.

Kat & Ryan’s Precious Planters

This was the sweetest gesture from Kat and Ryan’s little ones. With help from their dad (and Drew!), they hand-painted these herb pots as a surprise for their mom. They add a pop of color to the kitchen, bring a punch of flavor to recipes, and are a reminder of little ways to demonstrate a family’s love. 

Leanne & Jordan’s Dapper Desk 

Leanne was determined to find an impressive desk for her boyfriend, Jordan, even though space was limited. So we went custom, turning to Middle Tennessee’s Rustic River Creations for this minimalist two-tier piece with distressed white oak and metal piping. Leanne really committed to the project, contributing to the design process and helping to actually craft it, meaning this stand-up desk was truly constructed with love. 

Spotlight on Sonja 

After spending much of her life taking care of other people, Sonja‘s family wanted to give back. Her sister, Michelle, pitched in the funds for a massive deck out back (try keeping that a surprise!), and their dad supplied the beautiful outdoor furniture. As if that weren’t thoughtful enough, Michelle had the family’s old turntable refurbished and set up in the sunroom. It was a piece their late mother had wanted Sonja to have—and there was no more perfect place than in her very first home. 

Jennifer & David’s Backyard Bliss 

This renovation—and this family—proved to be unforgettable for us. Jennifer and David are the loving parents of two young boys, one of whom was born with a birth defect that affects his mobility. Through the generosity of their community and Brentwood Builders, we were able to install a sturdy ramp on the side of their house, and Jennifer’s dad, Larry, built the most incredible dining room table from scratch. And then there’s the backyard: Thanks to Treefrog Swingsets, Swingsets Nashville, and David’s commitment to installing the playground equipment, the boys have easy access to unlimited amounts of (extremely safe) fun.
