Letter from the Editors: Holiday 2020

Hear what Drew and Jonathan are most excited about in their newest issue of Reveal.

It’s the most wonderful time of year, the season of back-to-back holidays! From Halloween to Thanksgiving through Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and every day in between, there are countless reasons to celebrate. And we want to celebrate YOU! You’ve mastered getting half-dressed for video conference calls, organized your pantry (then promptly returned it to disarray with all that cooking), perfected your a cappella handwashing song, and even homeschooled the kiddos … or maybe you didn’t. That’s 1000% fine, too. You still deserve to wiggle into your favorite spot on the sofa and be whisked away to simpler times by Ralphie Parker and his family in A Christmas Story.

Everyone’s Christmas story will likely look different from what we’d hoped for, but we’re taking that as our cue to make this one for the ages. Break out the fancy plates and nourish your inner super-host with our master class in making any gathering—including one on Zoom—magical. As every party planner knows, pivoting is the name of the game.

“Christmas will likely look different from what we’d hoped for, but we’re taking that as our cue to make it one for the ages.”

One thing we can count on is that we’ll be caroling all season long because, as we know, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” That includes turning up the spirit of giving to full force with our gift guide, then clearing the table for some serious (but simple!) crafting. Once you’ve treated yourself to milk and cookies for a job well done, check out the holiday issue of Reveal, where you can hang out At Home with Melissa McCarthy (an interiors buff!), take in Leslie Odom Jr.’s story about getting out of a rut (show of hands, because we’ve all been there), then Meet the Parents, a.k.a. Savannah Guthrie and her husband, Michael Feldman, who show us what the holidays look like for a family that shares two faiths. It’s a reminder of how beautiful (and fun!) the world can be when we celebrate our differences.

Then, we’ve gathered the whole gang to share all the makings of a Scott family holiday. Stories told around the dinner table, music, decorations—it’s all here! When we were kids, everyone was welcome at our house and made to feel a part of the family, so it’s only natural that we extend an invitation to all of you. We’re so happy that you’ve joined us at home for the holidays. Throw on your Santa hat or elf ears and make yourself comfortable. We wish you the merriest everything, full of love and joy.
