At Home With … Malin Akerman
Hollywood’s favorite girl next door—and star of ‘Billions’ and the new movie ‘To the Stars’ (now on iTunes)—likes to keep things casual and comfortable in her grown-up but kid-ready L.A. pad.
“Cozy is a good way to sum it up,” says Malin Akerman when describing the 1940s-era Los Angeles house she shares with her husband, Jack Donnelly, and seven-year-old son Sebastian. “I was inspired by my grandfather’s place in the South of France, so I went for that rustic Mediterranean feel—a lot of wood and stone—and worked in a Moroccan vibe.”
The heart of the home is her posh-yet-practical living room. “The seating is white, which is crazy when you have a seven-year-old and a dog,” she says. “But the fabric is durable—you can unzip the covers and throw them in the washing machine.”
That sofa is often a launchpad for family reading hour, board games, and her son’s “extensive” fort building. The cool poufs on either side of the coffee table? “They can be stools or tables,” says Malin, “but Sebastian likes to roll on them like he’s in the circus.”
“A living room—or any room in the house, for that matter—should be functional and stylish but, above all else, mess-up-able! It’s meant for living!”
