Taylor and Jessica’s home was overflowing with not only furniture and stuff but people, too, including their three children and Jessica’s brother. To increase the property’s value—so the family could upgrade to a more spacious place—we modernized the living room, turned a cramped kids’ bedroom into sleek guest quarters, and executed a major kitchen transformation that elicited happy tears and goosebumps. All it took was four weeks of reno work and one little visit from the historical commission.

Before & After

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
TAKE THE SHINE OFF

This fireplace was begging for a redo. We started by painting over the glossy finish, which didn’t fit the muted vibe of the room. (Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of sparkle in the kitchen!) We also reduced the hearth size and installed black marble tile, upping the chic factor even more.

RAISE A GLASS

Kitchen wow factor, part 1: these custom wrought iron and glass-front upper cabinets created by Modern Iron Concepts. This room has no shortage of stunning storage spaces, and this functional masterpiece tops them all! Thinking about installing glass-fronts in your own kitchen? They’re a great way to show off your favorite or most unique dishes.

CUT IT OUT

Kitchen wow factor, part 2: our finishing touches to the brand-new five-seat island. It’s just a simple geometric cutout on either end, but together they add visual interest, symmetry, and zero extra clutter. (Bonus: They also help hide the electrical outlets, furthering that clean look.)
