LaShawnda & Daniel

Functional • Easy to clean • Polished • Modern • Built to last

After looking at several other properties, LaShawnda and Daniel decided to renovate a home they already owned in their dream neighborhood. But there was a good reason it wasn’t their first option: For every precious memory the house contained, there was a major issue, from a leaky ceiling to shoddy HVAC and electrical systems to the biggest snake we’ve ever encountered on the job. After taking everything down to the studs—and thanks to a sizable budget—we were able to capture the history of the home while giving it a modern, open polish. Only then we were able to have fun with design details like tilework, lighting, and accent pieces.

Before & After

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
THE TWILIGHT ZONE

In an effort to honor the historic integrity of the home, we restored the living room fireplace and added glass mosaic tile and a reclaimed wood mantel. The tile’s classic brick pattern has a twist in its blue, black, and gray palette inspired by the evening sky. The result: a subtle but stunning focal point for the main space where this tight-knit family will gather.

TAKE IT FOR GRANITE

With two active kids and plans for countless visitors, LaShawnda and Daniel wanted their home to be as easy to clean as possible. This kitchen sink has an ash-colored granite basin—in addition to never looking dirty, the material is famously resistant to scratches and stains. The dark shade also adds a pop of contrast to the newly light and bright area.

NEW AND BLUE

We loved the blue-gray fireplace so much that we carried that color scheme into the hallway bathroom. We replaced the existing bathtub with a shower and updated its overall look and feel with small mosaic tile. The other major space-saving feature here was a new vanity with a pedestal sink—this room is now unrecognizable in the best way possible.
