Florence & Humberto

Florence and Humberto have loved living in their L.A. bungalow for over 20 years, but its age is showing, and the home’s layout runs contrary to Florence’s desire for good feng shui. We brought in an expert to help us transform the main floor and give this home the flexibility and flow that Florence and Humberto can enjoy for the next 20 years.

Before & After

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
A LIFE-SIZED DOOR

Florence and Humberto’s front door was imposing, but impractical: reaching high to the roofline, but split so that only half the entrance was usable most of the time. In order to give them a clean, updated look, we installed a new door with dark wood and a vertical privacy panel. As the height of their door came down, the curb appeal went up.

MANTEL MAGIC

Florence and Humberto’s house had a pretty impressive fireplace — so impressive that we had no chance of drilling into it to run electrical wiring. Our sneaky solution? Running the outlet and wiring behind this new custom mantel, which the fireplace needed anyway as part of its update. Look, Ma: no wires!

A NOOK FOR A BOOK

We’ve gotten pretty creative at tucking in desk areas into modern designs, but we’re pretty proud of this one. The family wanted a separate living room to hang out, play games and stay close to the kitchen, so we turned this dead-end space into a great new attraction. Now, it also serves as a quick home office/homework spot, too, which more and more families will need as work-from-home becomes the new norm.
