Brooke & Ben

Brooke and Ben used to live abroad and moved houses eight times in 10 years. Seven years ago, they decided to return home to raise their kids and settled in a neighborhood surrounded by an incredible community. Ben and Brooke would never dream of leaving, but as their kids grow up, their cramped house has stopped working. We tackled the entire main floor to give them a light, fresh, functional transformation, so they can host neighborhood pizza parties for years to come.

Before & After

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
SOPHISTICATED STORAGE

High on Brooke and Ben’s list were an updated fireplace and storage for the kids’ toys, both of which would declutter the space and the home a more grown-up look. We inserted shiplap for the fireplace and floating shelves alongside it, while right-sizing the new furniture for the space. Turns out a lot of low profiles can really make a room stand out.

MODERN FARMHOUSE, EMPHASIS ON MOD

We continued the shiplap into the kitchen, where Brooke and Ben had asked us to introduce some color into their new modern farmhouse aesthetic. We took the invitation to create an exciting tile pattern on the kitchen island and create contrast through two-toned countertops. And while we lost one window to more cabinet space, we expanded the window over the sink to give it a true farmhouse feel.

STAIRWAY TO SAVINGS

A lot of times we want to save the treads on an old staircase, but they’re too worn out or damaged. Not this time! We restored the treads and gave the entryway an updated look, complete with a gallery wall full of family photos.
