Colette & Mark

Ten years ago, Mark and Colette fell in love with a real fixer-upper and were determined to renovate it themselves. But with three active kids under the age of two, family life took over and their dream renovations were put on hold. Now that the kids are older, they’re ready for us to tackle their half-finished projects and make this house their Forever Home.

Before & After

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
WAIT FOR THE TONES

Colette gave us great direction on the inspiration tour: two-tone counters, two-tone cabinets. Talk about speaking our language! We went with white cabinets and a dark countertop for the island, and which let us pivot to dark, rich tones for the rest of the cabinets with a light countertop. The brass fixtures and mosaic backsplash bring the bling, but, you know, in a sophisticated way.

FIRE AND ICE, ICE BABY

In the living room, Colette wanted a gorgeous fireplace for family gatherings, and Mark wanted an awesome stereo system for his records. Gorgeous and awesome: done and done. We tucked a cool stereo system among the cabinets and placed grills in the doors to let the sweet tunes escape. They’ll mingle nicely with the warmth coming from the new gas fireplace insert.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE BUILT-INS

Keeping with that theme of warmth, we really wanted to bring in some dark tones to contrast with the light cabinetry and fireplace, so we installed a thick, live-edge mantle and complemented it with reclaimed wood shelving held by leather straps. It’s a perfectly finished “unfinished” look that brought the traditional feel Colette and Mark were hoping to keep in their revamped home.
