Binh & Ramon

Binh and Ramon have spent the past 18 years in a neighborhood they never want to leave, surrounded by trees, family and friends. They called on us to revamp their space to make life more comfortable for everyone, including their three kids. We took on the challenge, updating their entry, living room, kitchen, dining room, and basement, and we even went outside to build a deck (and the door to get us there!).

Before & After

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
THREE SIDES TO EVERY FIRE

Binh and Ramon’s ’50s home came with a wood-burning fireplace that they never used. We took a good idea and made it stunning, with a three-sided gas fireplace that would both heat the room and spark conversation. We even worked in storage to make this centerpiece both functional and fashionable.

WE KNOW HOW TO MAKE AN ENTRANCE

Binh and Ramon instantly remarked on the dark wooden front door during our inspiration home tour, so we brought one to them—but we didn’t stop there. We wanted every step of their new home to be magical, so we laid this show-stopping tile in the entry to create the first of several statement pieces. To complement this vivid blue, we refinished the adjacent staircase with a dark stain and painted the white spindles black.

HOW MUCH WOOD WOULD A WOOD HOOD … AH, NEVERMIND

Ramon had something of a carpenter’s gene himself, having fashioned dining table seating out of a couple of pews (we’re still not sure the church knows they’re gone). We totally renovated the kitchen and dining room, but we kept the dark wood tones with this custom wood vent hood, which tied in nicely with the flooring and island seating.
