Brad Pitt’s Gifting a Backyard Pad

Brad Pitt recruited us to help him surprise his friend and makeup artist of 30 years by renovating her detached garage. We turned her 400-square-foot unit into a show-stopping guest suite, makeup station and storage area.

Before & After

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
A MURPHY BED FOR THE AGES

In order to make this a true income property, we had to get a full bed and bathroom in the space. Drew had an idea from his own recent home renovation: a Murphy bed that worked seamlessly with the accompanying sofa. This bed was so smooth that you didn’t have to remove anything from the shelf during conversion. Some hideaway storage for pillows and linens completed the transformation from casual living room to relaxing bedroom.

MIRROR, MIRROR … IN THE PENINSULA?

Despite her decades of work as a makeup artist to the stars, Jean often worked at her kitchen table in her house. We figured we could elevate the design in her new workspace—literally, by installing a hidden makeup mirror in the kitchen peninsula counter that appeared with the press of a button. We included drawer inserts to hold some of her tools, but there was no way we could fit all of her equipment into the new space.
Or was there?

IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK

Voila! As if the Murphy bed weren’t enough storage magic, we hid a massive storage closet for Jean’s equipment behind a custom shelf. We included an old photo of Jean’s beloved parents to add a personal touch that only she would know about. Now, Jean can invite clients into her new space, then put the work away to enjoy her new patio as the sun sets.
