City Walkthrough: Nashville, Tennessee

There’s beauty (and plenty of food) around every corner in Music City.

We’ve got a lot of love for Nashville. In addition to shooting recent seasons of Property Brothers and Buying & Selling here, we have a summer hosting gig at the Country Music Association Festival (which is as popular as the city is humid that time of year!), and last spring we did an extra-special Habitat for Humanity build called Home Is the Key. We’ve explored Music City enough to have a ton of favorite places to eat, shop, and stay—these are our top picks.

01

NOELLE

You don’t need to book a room to experience Noelle, a luxury art deco–inspired hotel downtown. Grab some caffeine from Drug Store Coffee and stake out a seat in the lobby, then head up to the equally swanky rooftop bar for happy hour.

PINEWOOD SOCIAL

Whatever your day or evening holds, you can do it at Pinewood Social! Seriously—you can meet a friend for coffee, have a team lunch, brush up on your bowling skills, grab a cocktail, or play bocce outside (fickle Nashville weather permitting).

WHITE’S MERCANTILE

You can knock out all kinds of shopping at this high-end general store, located in the trendy 12 South neighborhood. Scope out a wide range of men’s and women’s clothing, home goods, books, and unique gifts—no judgment if one those “gifts” is for yourself.

RESTORATION HARDWARE

It might be a chain retailer, but there’s no fighting the allure of the new Restoration Hardware gallery in Nashville. The 70,000-square-foot behemoth includes four floors of high-end home furnishings, a fine dining restaurant, and a rooftop bar.

NICKY’S COAL FIRED PIZZA

The secret behind the deliciousness of Nicky’s pizzas isn’t an ingredient but an appliance: Enrico, a four-and-a-half-ton coal-burning oven. It turns the housemade dough into New York–style pies that are the perfect balance of crispy, chewy, and smoky.

PRESERVATION STATION

“Using the past to build the future” might sound like a fortune cookie instruction, but it’s actually the philosophy of Preservation Station. The shop curates salvaged architectural elements and antique lighting for use in one-of-a-kind homes.

CHEEKWOOD

This sprawling 1930s estate—comprising a Georgian mansion and 55 acres of plush greenery—is Nashville’s not-so-secret garden. Explore Cheekwood’s outdoor exhibits and sculpture trail, then complete your visit at the art museum housed within the mansion.

08

ANALOG

Analog is where hospitality, live music, and interior design converge. Nestled in the boutique Hutton Hotel, this intimate venue hosts everyone from up-and-comers to Grammy winners and is known for its high-end ambience.

09

SUNDA

After gaining fame in Chicago, Sunda has found a second home in Nashville—and we’ve found our go-to spot for quality sushi in the South. (It’s been an ongoing search…) Sunda’s menu also includes creative items like lemongrass beef lollipops and tuna truffle pizza.

HOUSE OF CARDS

This place is pure magic! The House of Cards experience includes fine dining, handcrafted cocktails, and mind-bending illusions that could even fool a pro like Jonathan. Go here for a special-occasion evening or the last night of your Nashville trip.

PORTER FLEA

Twice a year, shoppers from across Tennessee flock to Porter Flea for beautiful handmade wares and art from more than one hundred local vendors. The pop-up market arrives in time for summer and the holiday season—and stirs up a frenzy every time.

HENRIETTA RED

This James Beard Award semifinalist is hailed as a haven for oyster lovers, but it’s really for anyone who loves contemporary food, lively conversation, and a community vibe. Named after the chef’s grandparents, Henrietta Red honors Southern hospitality.

13

NISOLO

Intentionally designed and ethically made in Peru, Nisolo‘s leather goods make you feel good about your purchase. Known for its array of shoe styles for men and women, the socially-conscious company also sells handbags and jewelry.

5TH & TAYLOR

Germantown’s 5th & Taylor is one of the top restaurants in one of our favorite Nashville neighborhoods. Expect an elevated spin on American and Southern staples (including deviled eggs and fried chicken) as well as not-quite-classics like beer can chicken.
