Bro & A: Happy Holidays!

dad and scott sons on christmas morning
On Christmas Day, Dad was tasked with making sure we paced ourselves on presents—otherwise they might have lost one of us in a sea of wrapping paper!

What favorite toy do you want to give/pass down to the kiddos in your lives?

D: I have a cute little toy robot from when I was 5 years old. All it does is go forward and back, but I thought it was the best thing!

J: I have my little brown bear that’s wearing plaid overalls, and his name is, shockingly, Teddy. He’s a cuddly collectors’ piece.

What’s a recent holiday “tradition” you’ve started that you want to keep going?

D: Sleeping in on Christmas Day feels so much better when you’re older.

J: One of our Property Brothers: Forever Home families plays Hide The Pickle, where they hide a shiny pickle ornament in the Christmas tree. Whoever finds it gets a special treat!

______ is a holiday movie.

D: Avengers (Christmas is when I catch up on superhero movies!)

J: Trading Places or The Apartment.

What’s your go-to dish for feeding a lot of people?

D: Chicken-and-veggie lasagna.

J: Can’t go wrong with some potpie or pasta.

What’s the party game that causes you to lose all track of time? Laugh until it hurts?

D: Charade Olympics. I get exercise and some good laughs.

J: Competitive charades and Codenames are hours of fun and give you so much blackmail material on your friends.

What’s the biggest party/event you’ve hosted?

D: Our wedding was over 300 people celebrating in Italy for 10 days.

J: I used to own and run an event-planning company, and we would host incredible themed events/dinners for upward of 4,000 people. There may or may not be a photo of me in a grass skirt and coconut bra from an island-themed event.

Craziest surprise party story?

D: When I proposed to Linda, I flew family and close friends in from around the U.S. and Canada to surprise her. Fortunately, she said yes, but then asked if we could keep it to ourselves for a few days. I only had hundreds of friends and family two blocks away, but I said, “Sure…we can keep it to ourselves for a little bit.”

J: This would definitely be Zooey’s 40th birthday party. We went full-on ’80s theme, complete with a DeLorean from Back to the Future and an ’80s hair band.

What’s the one critical ingredient for the perfect time together?

D: Listening to people’s stories!

J: Some music, great food, and a diverse group of friends. Oh, and there’s got to be a magician.
